Select Your Link Target

It took me a long time to finally set myself to install this, but now it is here ... more preferences for you. I used to add a target to all links, so external sites would open in a new window. However, I know a lot of people don't like this. It is probably not so friendly site design anyway, since I am forcing something on my visitors. If they want external links to open in a new window, they can simply select to do that with their browser. That might be a hassle though, so it seemed like a nice gesture to offer visitors the option whether or not to open external links in a new window.

Joen Asmussen wrote a great script to do what I wanted. So now you can find a little checkbox in menu on the right. Check it to have all external links open in a new window. Uncheck to have them open in this window. The instructions on the page were easy to follow as well. The only problem I had for a moment was a cookie conflict, until I realized I should change the name of the cookie. Of course Joen warned for this in his text, but I missed that part the first time.
